A good urban legend never really dies, does it? Lionsgate just released the first trailer for the upcoming film “Bagman,” based on a mythical creature that abducts children. It is directed by Colm McCarthy (“The Girl with All the Gifts“) from a script by John Hulme (“Blood, Sweat & Tears: A Basketball Exorcism”).

The “Bagman” trailer opens with a woman explaining that many cultures have different versions of a creature that lures children to capture them with its bag. During this speech we see Patrick McKee (Sam Claflin) having flashbacks to his own childhood experience with the Bagman.

“Reading John Hume’s script, I was immediately drawn to the folk horror elements and in particular the crisis of fatherhood that Pat experiences,” McCarthy said. “The raw horror of knowing your child is threatened but being powerless to protect them is every parent’s worst nightmare.”

    The Legend Of The Bagman

“Bagman” centers around Partrick moving back to his home town with his wife Karina (Antonia Thomas) and son Jake (Caréll Vincent Rhoden). Now he is dealing with a tidal wave of memories about a mysterious creature he saw outside his window as a child who tried to lure him away. This, understandably, causes him to become increasingly paranoid about it coming back for Jake. Leading Patrick into the ultimate battle of the wills to save his own family.

Claflin, Thomas, and Rhoden star alongside William Hope (“Eric”), Steven Cree (“Outlander”), and Frankie Corio (“Aftersun”). “Bagman” is produced by Marty Bowen, John Fischer, Wyck Godfrey, and Isaac Klausner.

“Bagman” will hit theaters on September 20th. You can check out the first hair raising trailer below:
