It seems like only yesterday SAG-AFTRA, the labor union of Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists was on strike for fare wages, compensation, and other notable issues. In 2023, the guild authorized a strike against the AMPTP, which was the longest in their history at 118 days.
On July 26, 2024 SAG-AFTRA authorized another strike, this time against all video game companies. This follows almost a year and a half of negotiations with companies signed to the Interactive Media Agreement. One of the major problems neither side can seem to agree on is the use of AI. Specifically, the unauthorized and unregulated use of artificial intelligence to replicate voices and likenesses without consent, or proper payment.
The first day of active picketing is set for Thursday, August 1st outside Warner Brothers Studios in Burbank.
