Need a Gaming Laptop? Here Are 5 Things to Look for

Did you know that two-thirds of the global population are active gamers? And almost eight in 10 gamers in the U.S. are adults. So, it’s not just the younger demographic that likes gaming.

The good news is there are various ways to enjoy the games you like. You can use consoles, smartphones, tablets, and laptops — and you don’t have to choose just one platform, either. Getting a suitable gaming machine is essential if you prefer playing games on a laptop.

A laptop suitable for work or everyday use isn’t necessarily the right one for gaming. When getting a gaming laptop, specs matter a great deal. The wrong spec can reduce the gaming fun factor since there may be games you either can’t play or won’t enjoy to the fullest extent.

Consider the following five specs if you need a new gaming laptop and want to choose wisely.

    1. Screen

The screen size matters — but for more reasons than you might think. While playing on a bigger screen can be more enjoyable, specs like the refresh rate and resolution are also essential. What good is a big screen if the refresh rate is slower than average or the resolution is lower than average? You can get by with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080, but you can get one up to 3840 x 2160 for a dedicated gaming machine. A gaming laptop with a refresh rate of 120Hz is good if you’re a casual gamer, but you can get one up to 480Hz.

When considering a screen, you should also know that the size will impact the weight of the machine and the amount of battery life. So, there are various things to consider screen-wise.

    2. CPU

When looking for a gaming laptop, you also must consider the central processing unit (CPU). A machine with an Intel Core i7 processor or better is a good selection. The better the CPU, the higher the cost. But if you want a good gaming laptop, the last thing you should do is consider only the price. When looking at gaming laptops for sale, you’ll want to look for a machine running a powerful CPU. The good news is you don’t have to pay an arm and a leg to get the right machine for your gaming needs.

    3. GPU

The graphics processing unit (GPU) is also important. It accelerates computer graphics and image processing — so the right GPU is vital for optimal gaming. You’ll want the right GPU to take on graphics-related functions like graphics, videos, and effects.

    4. RAM

You also should consider random access memory (RAM). For casual gamers, 16 GB of RAM should be sufficient. But if you play a lot or regularly play games that demand a ton of RAM, it’s best to get even more. A gaming laptop with 128 GB will be more than enough.

    5. Storage

You also should consider storage options. Popular options include a solid state drive (SSD) and a hard disk drive (HDD). While HDDs are less expensive than SSDs, SSDs offer several advantages over HHDs. For example, SSDs are faster, more robust, and consume less energy than HHDs. You can select which option you like best.

If you’re looking for a gaming laptop, consider these five recommendations. Again, a laptop suitable for work or general use might not be the best option for a gaming machine. Of course, you don’t need the most expensive gaming machine to enjoy your gaming time. And if you take your time and look around, you’ll find great gaming machines for affordable prices.

Focus on getting the right machine based on your gaming requirements for the ultimate gaming experience.
