In Japan, wedding traditions are broken up into three stages; shiki (ceremony), hiroen (reception), and nijikai (second party). The hiroen is considered a more formal affair with family members and professional colleagues in attendance. But since reception halls normally only rent their spaces for a few hours, the nijikai takes the party to a second, less formal, setting for close friends and personal acquaintances.
The issue sometimes is the nijikai may not happen on the same day as the shiki and hiroen. This can make choosing the appropriate ensemble a bit tricky. For X (formally Twitter) user Kuroboshi (@zgokzogok), the “Please wear a suit” instructions for his friend’s nijikai, led him to dawn an RX-78-2 Mobile Gundam Suit.

Thankfully he affixed his name tag to his neck so that everyone knew who the excellent coplay was. Kuroboshi even broke character and degloved so he could hold a glass of wine to toast the happy couple’s union.
Reactions
As the images of Kuroboshi at the wedding began to go viral several commenters were up in arms about how disrespectful the outfit was. However, a few commenters pointed out how everyone at the event acted like this was normal. And that’s the thing, it was!
The nuptials Kuroboshi was celebrating in the pictures were between Ryuryu (@00riu) and Ruby (@rubyred_16), who represented Japan at the 2019 World Cosplay Summit. So the couple’s nijikai had several other cosplayers in attendance including a Yu-Gi-Oh duelist, a Gundam, and Eva Unit-01. The Gundam and Eva even found time to battle among all the excitement.
“I was super happy to have Gundam at the party,” RyuRyu replied to Kuroboshi’s tweet. Showing that his outlandish costume was now only welcomed, but celebrated by the newlyweds.
We wish Ryuryu and Ruby a long and happy marriage.
