Sony Pictures has announced its highly-anticipated addition to the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” franchise will hit theaters next summer. The new film is directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (“Do Revenge”) from a script by Kaytin Robinson, Sam Lansky, and Leah McKendrick.

The franchise kicked off in 1997, and told the story of four friends who accidentally run over a pedestrian. Panicked, they decide to dispose of the body in the ocean and vow never to speak of the incident again. That is, until a year later when the group starts getting cryptic messages about their dark secret. Eventually, they get killed off one by one by a mysterious person armed with a hook.

The first movie starred Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe. While plot details are still under wraps, it seems Prinze and Hewitt are expected to return for the latest installment.

This will be the 4th film in the franchise alongside 1998’s “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” and 2006’s “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.” As well as an Amazon Prime Video series that launched in 2021.

“I Know What You Did Last Summer” will hit theaters on July 18th, 2025. We’ll keep you posted on updates as they become available. The first two films are currently streaming on Paramount+, Showtime, and PlutoTV. However, the tv series adaptation is exclusive to Amazon Prime Video.
