A ring is a work of art that can accompany us for a lifetime. We can create a unique, personalized ring according to our preferences. Next, I would like to introduce you to the material selection of the seal ring, engraving design, and so on.
Selection of materials
The material is probably our biggest concern. Due to different materials, its price will vary greatly, which may directly exceed your budget.
Traditionally, I think the preferred material for seal rings is K gold. True seal rings are rarely set with diamonds. I think the ring would be overly ostentatious and ostentatious if it were artificially set with diamonds. You know what? Even the British royal family only uses K gold as the material for the ring. Its characteristics are obvious: valuable, stable characteristics. It does not deteriorate and discolor due to oxidation, so you do not have to worry about any allergy risk. It is precisely because the material is valuable, so you will not be negligent and it will be placed or even discarded. Seal rings usually represent family glory. Now, it represents you more personally, showing your personality. So I think we have to choose engraving materials carefully.
Secondly, I think sterling silver is also an option. Sterling silver has the advantage of being cheap and elegant in color. Of course, its disadvantages are also serious. Due to the characteristics of pure silver, it is easily blackened by oxidation. In addition, it is not wear-resistant and will be easily worn. So it’s not as serious on the hand as gold. Sterling silver rings are cheap and fun as an accessory and are more popular among young people in society. Therefore, I think sterling silver is more of a fashion that conforms to The Times. Usually, young people think that the color of pure gold is very common and not unique. I admit I also thought so at first, but as I grew older, I’m still in love with pure gold.
The British are used to using numbers as a sign of purity. Usually, the purity of gold is from 9K all the way up to 18K. I don’t think a seal ring like this would be easy to take off. Sometimes it lasts a lifetime. Since the surface of the ring is also engraved with patterns or words, if there is not enough hardness, it is difficult to support these decades of uninterrupted wear. Obviously, if the pattern and text are worn out, the ring will become meaningless. You also don’t want this personality ring to become a waste!
You can first determine the gold material to use according to your budget and preferences. Because the price difference of materials is relatively large, how to choose is ultimately your own decision. I can tell you some relevant reference experience.
Usually, the men in my workshops choose 18-karat gold material. Because most men may not easily replace this ring after a lifetime, choosing the higher hardness of 18K can save subsequent repair and maintenance costs. In addition, more than half of the girls in my workshop chose 18K as the ring material. If you’re just looking for fashion or budget savings and don’t want to go for deeper symbolism, you can also opt for 9K gold or sterling silver. It all depends on your preferences and purpose. Do not stress hahaha!
How to choose the size of the ring?
Many beginners struggle with the size of their ring. In my opinion, the easiest way to determine the size you need is based on your height. If a tall man chooses a ring that is too small, it will look strange and the overall proportion is not coordinated. For example, I am 180 height and 150 weight, and my hands are normal size. Therefore, the British recommended that I wear a 14x13mm size.
The process of engraving
After selecting the material, the first step is to characterize and cut the material. I usually tie a leather bag under the metalworking table to collect scattered powder waste. After cutting the material, you pass the mill to turn the metal blocks into thin strips. Make a loop around it according to your measurements. In order to reflect the beauty and nobility of the ring, you can use different degrees of fine file to rub the edge of the ring. This process should be gradually polished from coarse to fine according to the shape of the material, and various types of files with different shapes and different frictional forces will be used.
You can first draw the design you like on the paper and then paste it onto the material. Next, you can use toner to gently draw the outline of the pattern on the metal surface. After that, you can use a pneumatic engraver machine to carefully complete your own pattern or letter on the surface of the ring. The welding of the metal is a very important step, through which all the parts are connected to form a complete shape. We need to weld the two ends of the ring and then polish and do other operations. Of course, if you like open rings, this step can be ignored! Remember that? It’s all up to you.
How do you know your hand size?
Ring size is not an issue for girls and they will definitely try to figure it out on their own. However, many men do not know how to determine the size of their hands. The easiest way, I think, is to just go to a jewelry store. The service provided by the jewelry store is very good! Even if you don’t buy the product, the waiter will take your measurements for free. If you really don’t want to take the time to go to the jewelry store, you can also buy a plastic measuring ruler or ring on the Internet. It’s very convenient!
The engravings on the ring can vary
The content you choose to carve can be varied and even strange and abstract, but be careful. As long as you don’t regret your choice decades later, you can carve any pattern and text. It is worth noting that if you choose to carve the letter, it is up to you to decide whether you want to use it as a stamp. Because it’s a mirror image. If you want the seal to be a normal letter, the letters of the ring should be mirrored. In fact, modern society has lost the opportunity to seal wax with a ring. So, I don’t think the stamp function is considered at all, as long as the pattern or letter on the ring is clear and intuitive!
