UPDATE
[The first day of Propstore’s auction saw the spinner sell for $131,250 including the buyer’s premium.]
Perhaps the most influential movie in the genre, “Blade Runner” remains the industry standard for pretty much every aspect of filmmaking. Script, production design, costuming, music- every little element from the Ridley Scott-directed adaptation of Philip K. Dick‘s “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” is astounding to this day. Which is why anytime a piece from the seminal film comes up for auction, it’s kind of a big deal. ESPECIALLY when it’s something like this item.
An item from Propstore‘s upcoming March Hollywood memorabilia auction is kind of a piece of history. Called the ‘Lobster’ Spinner, this is the very first vehicle we see in the opening sequence. No one has seen this model in over 40 years since production wrapped, and its in PRISTINE condition. Based on original concept designs by the great Syd Mead, this model was built by Bill George, and has a wealth of awesomeness with it.
While the actual auction catalog doesn’t get publicly released until February 16th, Adam Savage and Tested were able to view it in person.
We’ll update with the lot listing and additional information about the auction, which takes place March 12th-14th, 2024 once the catalog is live.
