A few years ago, Cartoon Network Studios’ operations were consolidated with Warner Bros. Animation. This meant changes to what content would and would not be produced, but it also caused the closure of Cartoon Network’s famous office in Burbank, California. As a result, the company’s distinctive logos would have to be removed from the building creating a once in a lifetime opportunity for animation fans!
Someone posted the two full signs on eBay, selling them off letter by letter.
“Once the Cartoon Network building was officially closed Cartoon Network hired J-Squared General Contractors Inc to oversee that the building be converted from the magical entertainment creating space to an office building,” the anonymous seller explains in the listing. “J-Squared hired Western Sign and Awning to actually take the two signs off the building. One sign was on Palm Ave side of the building and the second sign was on the 3rd St side of the building. One of the signs was a little bit larger hence the two different size options. I then purchased the signs from Western Sign and Awning. I watched as each letter was gently removed from the corner of Palm Ave and N 3rd St. The letters were taken across the street and have been sitting inside an temperature controlled room. “
Neither Warner Bros. nor Cartoon Network had anything to do with this auction. Animation character designer Chris Battle, who has worked for the company, seemed just as surprised as everyone else when he shared the news on X (formally Twitter).
Even with the logo removed, that office housed the production of shows like “Samurai Jack,” “The Powerpuff Girls,” “Johnny Bravo,” “Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends,” and “Steven Universe.” Creating a legacy that will live on even as the physical space changes.
