Rumor(s) Du Jour: “Top Gun 3,” “What If Star Wars,” and More

Another week has ended, and with the weekend comes a round up of entertainment rumors. Sure, these have been ‘reported’ ad nauseam by the usual suspects. And some are probably actually true. But sources matter, and when one of them is…Puck News…you get the idea.

“Top Gun 3” is in Development- Likely

The first on the list is a whopper. After news broke of a very unorthodox deal between Tom Cruise and Warner Bros. Pictures, this story started popping up thanks to the aforementioned Puck News. We will not be linking to them, because they….suck. The story as it stands, which has now been independently sourced by THR and Variety, is promising. As part of the WB Cruise deal, Ehren Kruger (co-writer of “Top Gun: Maverick“) is working on a script for a third installment, which would again star Cruise. Also back for this would be Miles Teller (Rooster) and Glen Powell (Hangman).  Joe Kosinski will supposedly return to direct.

We say this one is pretty likely, but maybe some of the details aren’t fully correct. There is also the ongoing lawsuit regarding”Maverick” to consider, which names Kruger, Kosinski, and Cruise.

“What If…? Star Wars” series being developed- Possible, but doubtful

This is one of those rumors that started as an actual story, but may have been blown out of proportion. According to DanielRPK (who is sometimes right, sometimes wrong), Lucasfilm is working on a “Star Wars” version of “What If…?” for Disney+. Possible? Sure. Likely? Maybe.

The kernel of truth here is “Marvel’s What If…?” writer Matthew Chauncey pitched a Marvel-Star Wars crossover episode for one of the seasons, and it got turned down. (You can watch the full interview with MoovyTV where director Bryan Andrews talks about it here.) It’s not a bad idea, honestly. [I can think of about 100 stories I’d love to see. Seriously. Call me.]

Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson returning as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson for “Daredevil: Born Again“- Likely

After months of speculation, we may have some good news for fans of Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson from “Marvel’s Daredevil.” As you probably know, Disney+ is bringing back stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (respectively) for a new limited series that will follow the “Born Again” comics storyline. One of the big questions of course was whether or not Karen and Foggy would also return. According to TheInsneider (again, another dubious-at-best source), its happening. Reports on just how many episodes “Born Again” will run are kind of all over the place. Some say 6 episodes, some say a fairly ridiculous amount like 18.

Woll and Henson coming back is pretty likely, although the reality could be less than ideal. A mere flashback using footage from the Netflix series? A blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo? No one seems to know.

We’ll try to do one of these a week, depending on how many rumors worth discussing we see. And also, we’ll do updates if any of these turn out to be true.
