Ah yes, the holidays. Food, family, and movies. Some films become a part of those festive celebrations, and perhaps none so much in modern times as “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Director Henry Selick has spoken recently about wanting to possibly revisit the property for a prequel, or even a sequel. But someone does NOT want that to happen- Tim Burton.
Contrary to popular belief, Burton did NOT direct the flick. He did, however, co-write the story with Michael McDowell, as well as influencing much of the iconic art style. But, he REALLY isn’t interested in anything new with “Nightmare Before Christmas.”
“To me the movie is very important,” Burton told Empire Magazine. “I’ve done sequels, I’ve done other things, I’ve done reboots, I’ve done all that shit, right? I don’t want that to happen to this. It’s nice that people are maybe interested [in another one], but I’m not. I feel like that old guy who owns a little piece of property and won’t sell to the big power-plant that wants to take my land.”
He even went so far in the interview to offer an old-timey accented prospector voice, declaring, “Get off of my land! You pesky little… You ain’t getting this property! I don’t care what you want to build on it. You come on my property… Where’s my shotgun?”
Yeaaaah. So….we probably will NOT be getting that “Nightmare” prequel anytime soon.
