Moisturizers for Acne Prone Skin- A Preventive Approach to Acne

Acne is a result of a combination of oil, bacteria, and hormones. Many people try different skincare products to get rid of acne but fail to get the desired results. If you are also among them, this blog is for you. Here, you will explore some prevention tips, including buying and applying moisturizers for acne prone skin to improve skin health.

Continue reading this post to learn more about these tips. But before you read about the tips, it’s good to understand what exactly causes acne.

    Acne Causes

Each skin pore acts as a portal to a hair follicle that holds both an oil gland, also known as a sebaceous gland, and a hair. Sebum, a naturally occurring oil that softens and hydrates skin and helps to keep it supple and healthy, is released by these glands.

Among the many causes of acne, overproduction of oil is one of the main causes. This overproduction is usually the result of hormonal changes such as menstrual cycle, puberty, menopause, pregnancy, etc.

Generally, acne can occur at any age but is more likely to develop in teenagers.

We can say that acne is caused by the following:

    • Too much oil production by follicles
    • Accumulation of dead skin cells in the pores
    • A buildup of bacteria in your pores

    Prevention Tips

    Wash your face twice daily-

Washing your face twice a day – in the morning and right before bed – is advised. Unless you sweat a lot, over-cleansing might cause skin discomfort. This regimen keeps skin healthy without needlessly irritating it.

    Avoid scrubbing your skin-

Since dirt is not the source of acne, harsh exfoliants and aggressive cleaning won’t help the problem – in fact, they could make redness and irritation worse. Acne can be better controlled with a gentle and suitable skincare regimen that doesn’t exacerbate existing skin issues.

    Apply moisturizer-

You might wonder why moisturizer is required for dry skin, and applying this skin care product over already oily skin can only worsen skin health. But this is not true. Even someone with acne should regularly use a good quality moisturizer for acne-prone skin.

If your skin is prone to acne, you must always keep this product in your makeup kit. It is designed to keep your skin’s protective layer well-hydrated and intact. Thereby, it prevents the dryness over your skin that could otherwise cause the skin to produce sebum, clog pores, and lead to outbreaks.

    Do not pop pimples-

Although popping pimples could be tempting, doing so can leave scars and allow germs to enter nearby pores, which can lead to more severe and inflammatory acne.  When treating a pimple, it’s critical to adhere to safe and hygienic procedures, such as visiting an aesthetic clinic in Malaysia, to reduce these risks

Ensure everything that touches your skin is clear of dirt-

Cleaning objects that come into contact with your skin on a regular basis is necessary to maintain clear skin. Debris from bedding, makeup brushes, and phone screens can build up and cause clogged pores. To avoid pore-clogging, replacing pillowcases twice or three times a week, in addition to changing sheets once a week, is a good idea.

Daily cleaning of cosmetic devices is ideal, but if it is not feasible, weekly cleaning will do. Wipe your phone once or twice a day with an appropriate cleaner to prevent it from aggravating your skin. Additionally, for those seeking advanced skincare solutions, incorporating rf microneedling V Medical Aesthetics can help rejuvenate your skin while ensuring it remains free from dirt and impurities. Make sure that anything touching your skin is still clear of dirt that might clog pores.

Keep an eye over hair care routine-

The use of shampoos, conditioners, and styling solutions in hair care products might exacerbate breakouts on the forehead and neck. If your acne doesn’t go away, try switching to a different hair regimen and stay away from oil-based products. Keeping your hair off your face, especially when you’re sleeping, can help reduce contact and potential acne triggers as oil from the hair can transfer to the skin.

    Buy non-comedogenic skincare formulations-

Choosing non-comedogenic beauty products is essential if your skin is prone to acne. A label that frequently reads “won’t clog pores,” “oil-free,” or “non-acnegenic” can be commonly seen on skincare products. But not every product with that label is equally useful.

Examining the entire ingredient list is crucial to making the best decision. Products with harmful ingredients that could irritate your skin should be avoided. Your skincare routine can truly help manage acne and maintain clear, healthy skin if you carefully choose non-comedogenic products and look into their contents. And most importantly, do not skip buying moisturizers for acne prone skin.

What to look for in a moisturizer?

With the number of moisturizers available in the market these days, it becomes a little difficult to choose the best among them. Make sure you buy the product that suits your skin. If you have acne, you should specifically purchase a moisturizer specially designed for people prone to acne.

You can consider buying a moisturizer that is packed with a combination of effective ingredients such as oligopeptide-10, manuka honey, niacinamide, lactic acid, salicylic acid, hyaluronic acid, etc. So check the list of ingredients in the product carefully. If you observe any ingredient harmful or irritating to your skin, don’t buy it.

If you buy a good quality moisturizer made with skin-friendly ingredients, you can expect the following benefits-

    • Help in the exfoliation of the skin’s surface.
    • Reduce the chances of breakouts.
    • Decrease inflammation and soothe irritated skin.
    • Support acid balance in the skin with the right combination of hydrating ingredients.
    • Help decrease the appearance of skin pigmentation and improve skin complexion.

Apply the moisturizer for acne-prone skin daily and notice the change in your skin health and appearance by yourself.
