Walmart is trying to make fetch happen with a reunion of the original “Mean Girls” cast for their Black Friday advertisement. Lacey Chabert, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Seyfried, Daniel Franzese, and Rajiv Surendra all make an appearance, but where is Rachel McAdams? Can you really call it a reunion without the woman who played Queen B Regina George?

The Walmart Black Friday Deals ad aired on November 1st, 2023 with the few cast members returning to North Shore High School. We’re not going to lie the ad itself is entertaining. Seeing the few cast members as functioning adults is a “full circle” moment. “Some things never change. On Wednesdays we wear pink, but now we shop Walmart Black Friday deals,” Lohan says in a voice over to start the commercial. The voiceover is complete with Chabert pulling up in a convertible full of Walmart bags.

Cady Heron (Lohan) is a guidance councilor, still fusing cool and great together. Karen Smith (Seyfried) is a weather reporter, she just doesn’t grab her chest to use her ESP anymore. Gretchen Wieners (Chabert) is a total stage mom, acting similar to Amy Poehler‘s character. Kevin Gnapoor (Surendra) is a proud dad, telling his young son to keep doing his thing. Damian (Franzese) appears to be a music director at the school and still friend to the girls.

There are easter eggs ALL over this ad, including the infamous “Jingle Bell Rock” performance. Everyone who took part in the ad were happy to work together again. Lohan, Chabert, and Franzese all expressed how great it was to be together again. But we can’t help but wonder why other cast members weren’t involved in the project. Where was McAdams? She played such an integral part of the film, why don’t we get to see a grown Regina George?

Why was there no Rachel McAdams?

The answer is not that there is bad blood between McAdams and her cast mates. She just didn’t want to be part of the project. This is not the first time McAdams has turned down the spotlight. She’s previously taken a two-year break from acting for her mental health.

“Rachel McAdams didn’t want to do it. They were all offered it. But the three of them loved being together for their reunion. They had a great time talking about being moms, and it was definitely a loss not having Rachel there,” an insider confirmed after the commercial aired.

While it is sad she wasn’t part of the commercial, we understand her choice. No one should do something they don’t want to do.

Walmart’s Black Friday Deals start online on November 8th, 2023. Walmart will also be releasing new commercials with the “Mean Girls” cast every Wednesday up to Black Friday and on Cyber Monday. Check out the first commercial down below:
