Writer Diablo Cody (“Juno”) must have been working in the lab late one night when she wrote the script for “Lisa Frankenstein.” The new horror-comedy will be the feature-length directorial debut of Zelda Williams. And from the first look, it seems as if their styles (monster) mash.

“Lisa Frankenstein,” will be a coming of RAGE love story about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush. Who just so happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happiness… and a few missing body parts along the way.

The film stars Kathryn Newton (“Freaky”), Cole Sprouse, Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest, and Carla Gugino.

The first-look footage of “Lisa Frankenstein,” looks like a fun exploration of the genre. Which seems to be made to look like a neon-coated “Re-Animator.” We mean, come on, the name is a tounge-in-cheek refferance to the neon glory that was Lisa Frank.

This would also make sense considering Cody’s last foray into horror was the satirical “Jennifer’s Body.” While initially panned upon its release, it is gaining a cult following among horror fans who have revisited it. The failure mostly being blamed on the backlash against star Megan Fox, and Cody herself being a polarizing figure at the time.

“Lisa Frankenstein” will open in theaters on February 9th, 2024, just in time for Valentine’s Day. You can check out the first-look footage below:
