Kern County Sheriff deputies discovered a pizza topped with pepperoni, cheese, sausage, and a loaded handgun! This was discovered during a routine traffic stop in California on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023. The traffic stop was conducted around 3am about 74 miles southeast of Bakersfield, California.

As deputies conducted the traffic stop for a simple code violation, they discovered a sawed-off shotgun, two handguns, and a plethora of drugs. One of the handguns was inside of a pizza box atop a pizza. Cash, scales, drug paraphernalia and packaging were also found inside the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver, 47-year-old Danny Carson, had a misdemeanor warrant and was on post-release community supervision for weapons violation. Carson was arrested alongside three passengers: 18-year-old Saydee Vandehey, 30-year-old Krista Rutledge, and 47-year-old Benjamin Vasquez.
Now we know criminals try hiding evidence to avoid getting caught, but hiding a gun inside a pizza box? Did someone seriously think that would work? The Ninja Turtles would be ashamed at this stunt. We do have a few questions about what happened after the arrests were made. Did the pizza get bagged up for evidence, or was it tossed away? Was the handgun cleaned so that it wouldn’t have that funky old pizza smell in the evidence locker? What is the exact protocol for weaponry discovered on top of food?
All four have been booked into the Kern County-Lerdo Justice Facility in Bakersfield for multiple weapon and drug violations. At least the streets and pizzas are a little safer now.
