Any good Trekkie recognizes and knows where some of the iconic scenes of “Star Trek” were shot. Dry, arid planets were often filmed in the California desert. “The Next Generation” often utilized the Huntington Gardens for forested or lush garden planets. Ignlorious Treksperts author and writer Mark A. Altman (“The 50 Year Mission,” “Librarians“), visual effects supervisor Daren Dochterman (“Star Trek: The Motion Picture,” Master and Commander“), and writer/showrunner Ashley E. Miller (“DOTA: DRAGON’S BLOOD,” “Thor,” “X-Men: First Class“) want to take it a step further. A Kickstarter to fund a documentary focusing on these filming locations, and how the sci-fi series made 20th century locations into alien worlds.
“To Boldly Go” will include cast and crew from the original “Star Trek” series all the way to “Star Trek: Picard.” And it also boasts a number of unnamed special guests. The Kickstarter promises a documentary like no other. A voyage of discovery and adventure. The excerpt speaks to a deep love for the series and a thirst for exploration of these original locations.
A Documentary Of Cosmic Proportions
The project is described as:
“TO BOLDLY GO is not just a documentary… it’s a voyage of discovery (no, not THAT Discovery), a time machine that takes viewers back to the making of some of the most iconic TV episodes of all-time as only the Treksperts can. The hosts of the hit podcast will share their unique insights and deep knowledge about the making of these classic episodes as well as personal recollections and anecdotes about the production (and watching) these legendary episodes as they travel from location to location on a fun-filled journey across Southern California and beyond — and you’ll literally be on the bus, er, starship with them.”
We haven’t even told you about the stretch goals for this project. If they’re reached, backers will receive some wonderful goodies. Including exclusive autographed merch, companion book, exclusive pin, and Meet and Greets with cast and crew. And even more surprises than that! But you’ve only got a month and a half to back this project, so get cracking!
