    Turn Off the Water When Brushing Your Teeth

    Are you someone who is still in the habit of letting the water run while you’re brushing your teeth for a couple of minutes in the morning and at night? If so, this is going to be one of the top ways you’re wasting water in your home.

    Start turning the water off every time you brush your teeth to save a lot of water. You might be surprised to see just how much water you can stop from going down to the tubes when you take this approach to conserve it.

    Take Shorter Showers

    Do you spend half an hour in the shower every time you climb into it? Even if you have a low-flow showerhead, this is still going to result in you wasting your fair share of water.

    Taking showers that are this long can also wreak havoc on your skin in some cases by drying it out, especially if you take very hot showers. It’s another reason why you should work to stop taking such long showers if you can. Showers shouldn’t last for any longer than 10 minutes or so, and even that will be pushing it.

    Fix Plumbing Leaks

    Have you noticed that some of your plumbing fixtures are leaking? Maybe you have a dripping faucet leak, or maybe you have a plumbing pipe that has sprung a leak.

    Either way, you should make it your mission to fix any plumbing leaks in your home ASAP. Even small leaks can turn into big problems and waste a ton of water if you aren’t careful. You’ll be able to save a lot of water by having them fixed.

    How to Save a Lot of Energy in Your Home

    As you’ve seen, you can save a lot of water in your home with next to no effort on your part. Even if you only do the three things we just mentioned, you should notice your home using a lot less water than it used to.

    The same can be said for energy conservation. You don’t have to overextend yourself too much to get great results. Here are some simple ways to save a lot of energy in your home.

    Invest in LED Lighting

    “Turn off lights when you’re not using them” has always been the go-to method of saving energy in homes. You should still try to do this, but you should also take things a step further by investing in LED lighting for your home.

    LED lights will use just a fraction of the energy that old incandescent ones will. So even if you happen to leave them all on, they’re still not going to use anywhere close to as much energy as incandescent ones do.

    Buy Energy-Efficient Appliances

    If you have a bunch of older appliances in your home, there is a pretty good chance they aren’t going to be all that energy efficient. Older refrigerators, clothes dryers, and other appliances can waste a ton of energy in your home.

    With this in mind, it would be well worth buying energy-efficient appliances to replace your old ones. They’ll help you scale back on how much energy you’re burning through in your house each day.
