That’s Not Jackie Chan and His Daughter in Viral Video

A now viral video posted to Twitter reportedly shows actor Jackie Chan reacting to his old stunts with his daughter. The issue is, that’s not his daughter Etta Ng Chok-Lam, its actress Liu Haocun. This clip is not of a touching moment with his estranged daughter, but simply an excerpt from Chan’s movie “Ride On” that has been completely mis-captioned.

Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith “The Karate Kid” (2010) Sony Pictures

While those without context praised Chan for being such a good father, other commenters were quick to correct the faulty caption. Some took it a step further by pointing out Chan and his real life daughter’s relationship has been very publicly strained for quite some time.

In 2017, Chok-Lam Posted a video to YouTube with her then girlfriend. The pair explained they were in a difficult situation, and accused Chan of homophobia.

“Hi, I’m Jackie Chan’s daughter, and this is my girlfriend,” Chok-Lam said. “We’ve been homeless for a month due to homophobic parents. We pretty much slept under a bridge and other things.”

It seems that this situation did not improve. In 2022, she was photographed in Canada standing in line at a soup kitchen. After these images were shared around, Chok-Lam’s wife, Andi Autumn, posted to Weibo saying they were fine. Claiming that their lives are “blissful” and that there isn’t a need for “outsiders to worry.” While we will never knock soup kitchens, it does seem odd to stand in line to eat at one if you don’t have to.

Chok-Lam and Chan’s troubled relationship may also stem from the fact that she was born from an affair.  In 1982, Chan married Taiwanese actress Joan Lin and welcomed their first son, Jaycee Chan, into the world later that year. But in 1999, news broke that Chan had an extra-marital affair with model and actress Elaine Ng Yi-Lei. Everything was exposed when she had her daughter Chok-Lam, who was born on January 18th, 1999.

“I’m not a saint. I’ve done something wrong,” Chan said about the affair during a press conference. “I’ve done something that many men in the world have done. Maybe it was a moment of playfulness.” Though him and Jaycee have remained married, recently celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary in 2022.

Unfortunately, Chok-Lam’s sexual orientation and how she came to be, could both be factors in why they are estranged. We hope her and her wife are in a better situation now. So, as always, don’t believe everything you see or read on Twitter.

Jackie Chan and his daughter crying while watching some of his old movie scenes is the most wholesome thing you’ll watch today.
