Which currencies are most important in Elder Scrolls Online?

Elder Scrolls Online is vast and it has so many things going on! Currencies are abundant too and it’s not always clear which of them are meant for what exactly. Don’t worry, just as in any other MMORPG, some currencies are more important in ESO than others. So there’s this sort of hierarchy of currencies that you should be aware of which is not that hard at all. Secondary currencies are useful but not always and not for everyone – you gotta do your research on what this or that new kind of coin does whenever you stumble upon it. But the primary currencies are hard to confuse with anything else. We’d say that there are 3 main types of currencies that you should know – they are crucial for most players. Let’s take a closer look at what they are.

What main currencies are there in ESO?

In our view, the 3 most important currencies in Elder Scrolls Online are:

    1. Gold
    2. Crowns
    3. Alliance points

In this very order. Gold is the universal currency that has an enormous number of uses. Crowns are a premium currency that you mostly buy cosmetic stuff with. And Alliance points are the essential PvP currency. Now let’s discuss each of them in detail. We’ll go from Alliance points to Gold.

    What are Alliance points?

If you’ve ever participated in Alliance wars or Battlegrounds, you must already have at least several of these. Alliance points are an important concept for ESO’s PvP in general. Not only is it a currency that you can accumulate and later spend on items, but also it’s a kind of a progression system that defines your PvP rank. It’s many things and it takes some time to realize that. Let’s start with its simplest function – you can buy stuff with it. There’s a special vendor in Cyrodill that appears on weekends and who sells various valuable stuff like jewelry and, somewhat surprisingly, monster helmets. Other things you can buy with Alliance points are pots and siege and defense weapons (for Alliance wars). As you can see, the options are quite numerous and diverse. So everyone is likely to find what to spend their points on.

Another use of Alliance points is ranking up. Whenever you reach a certain threshold, you get a rank up each of which gives you some valuable stuff. It’s skill lines progress (assault and support, unique to PvP), armor dye, and furnishings. Your rank also has a name and it’s always cool to be a general, for example. Obviously, nothing beats the Emperor rank but it’s earned in a different way so it doesn’t count here.

The most effective way to earn APs is doing PvP. Alliance wars or Battlegrounds – that doesn’t matter. Choose whichever you prefer more. Sometimes you can get APs for other activities but the non-PvP sources are scant and you shouldn’t really rely on them.

    What are Crowns in ESO?

Crowns are a premium currency that can’t be earned with any in-game activities. Yes, the sad truth is that you gotta pay real money to get them. Crowns are used to buy items in the crown store (which is a perfect name in terms of making it clear where to use crowns). Luckily, you get some of them for purchasing your ESO Plus subscription so if you actively play the game and renew the subscription monthly, you’re likely to have enough crowns to buy all the stuff you need in the shop. But well, that’s a bold assumption, to be honest. Some people don’t seem to ever have enough things to buy from the crown store. And the developers know that and add stuff there monthly. Yes, you read it right: they add new items to their in-game store every month.

The prices on those items are alright. But you can always buy them even cheaper than that. Check out ArmadaBoost’s official website to find the ESO Crowns delivery boost. These guys have found a way to get you in-store items cheaper – and it’s perfectly legal and works fast. Check it out here: https://armadaboost.com/buy/crowns-eso.

    What is gold in ESO?

Gold is the most common currency in the game. The blood of its economy, if you will. You use them to buy stuff from most vendors, trade with other players, access various game modes, and so on. It’s essential to have enough gold to satisfy all your champion’s needs.

It comes from a variety of sources:

    • defeating NPC enemies
    • completing quests
    • stealing coins (you gotta do that unnoticed, otherwise you might lose more than you earn)

And the list goes on. If you need a lot of gold at once – and sometimes you just must have this expensive thing right now – you can check out ArmadaBoost’s dedicated service that does exactly that: delivers gold. Any amount, any server. You just specify the amount and the gold comes to you shortly. Check out the ESO gold boost right here:
