Melissa McCarthy Wants to Work With Octavia Spencer in “Ma” Sequel

Oscar-nominated actress Melissa McCarthy wants to work with the Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer on a sequel to the horror movie “Ma.” Considering McCarthy just played Ursula in the live-action remake of “The Little Mermaid” this could be one of the most exciting villain team-ups we have ever seen.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, McCarthy sang Spencer’s praises. “I would do anything with Octavia, for Octavia, in the ballpark of Octavia, if there’s a picture of Octavia in the background at one point in the script — I would do anything for that glorious woman,” McCarthy said when asks if she’d be game to “avenge Ma’s death” in a possible sequel. “She’s a better person, she’s the funniest human I know, she’s the kindest, smartest person I know. We’ve been friends for over 25 years.”

While it is heavily implied that Spencer’s character died in a house fire at the end of 2019’s “Ma.” Director Tate Taylor hinted at an idea for a sequel in 2021, that will bring her character back. “My idea is that she’s moved to another town, and she has open houses in another city and kills people in the open house,” Taylor explained. “I think she’d be a real estate agent in the Pacific Northwest, and just murder white people looking at McMansions. That’s as far as I’ve gotten!”

McCarthy and Spencer have worked together before on Netflix’s action-comedy “Thunder Force.” Which, funnily enough, had them both playing superheroes. Not only are the two actresses friends, but Taylor and Spencer are also tight beyond their work on both “Ma” and “The Help.” Even recruiting their longtime mutual friend, Allison Janney, for a cameo in the former.

“Honey, Tate has a way of talking all of his friends into doing the craziest things,” Spencer said about Janney’s cameo. “We had a ball. She’s so fun. You see what I had to do to her… that’s what she agreed to do!”

We’ll keep you posted on updated about a “Ma” sequel if/when they develop. You can check out a trailer for the first film below:
