John Carpenter Teases “The Thing 2,” Other Projects

The Master of Horror John Carpenter is one of the greats of the genre. From the terrifying suburban nightmare of “Halloween” to the sci-fi body horror of “The Thing,” Carpenter has created cult classics both terrifying and entertaining. He’s also one of the most engaging people you could meet. And horror fans the world over got the chance to spend some time with him as he attended Texas Frightmare Weekend. Including a panel where a question with a very sought-after answer was asked: Will John Carpenter do a sequel to “The Thing?”

Would a sequel have it take the form of Kurt Russel? WHO KNOWS??

The answer was both vague and encouraging. “I have been sworn to secrecy, okay, because there may be, I don’t know if there will be, there may be a Thing 2,” Carpenter reportedly said.

So…may be, huh? That’s good enough to whet the appetites of many a horror fan. 2011’s “The Thing” was disappointing for many fans of the Carpenter classic. Not only because practical effects were scrapped for CG. It also lacked the special charm of Carpenter’s work.

That said, the answer isn’t an affirmation, either. Carpenter has expressed significant interest if the offer is made to him. But fans may still be waiting a long time. In the meantime, they can look forward to “John Carpenter’s Suburban Screams,” which has just recently wrapped filming in Prague, which Carpenter directed remotely. He has also expressed interest in making a “Dead Space” movie; something that definitely has horror fans perking up their ears. One of the few video game franchises we would fully trust to be incredible in Carpenter’s hands. Only time will tell what his next projects will be. We’ll be excited to see what’s on the docket now that “Suburban Screams” is finished.
