If you were a fan of “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” Disney released in the 1990s, we’ve got some great news! The one and only Brandy will be reprising her role for the upcoming “Disney Descendants: Rise of Red!” She’ll be joined by Paolo Montalban, who played Prince Charming in the 1997 musical. Of course, the late great Whitney Houston will not be able to join the festivities as the Fairy Godmother. Melanie Paxson will be taking on the magical part.

A first-look teaser was recently released, which gave us our first look at Brandy and Montalban’s return.

A synopsis for “Rise of Red” reveals a bit of what we can expect from the Disney+ film, which was directed by Jennifer Phang. Red (Kylie Cantrall), the Daughter of the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), and Chloe (Malia Baker), Cinderella and King Charming’s daughter, will apparently cross paths at a momentous celebration in Auradon when unexpected chaos breaks out. “In order to prevent an impending coup, they must join forces to travel back in time, via a magical pocket watch created by the Mad Hatter’s son, to stop an event that would lead to grave consequences.

We’ll let you know what we hear about a likely release date. You can catch the Brandy-starring version of “Cinderella” on Disney+ now.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
