Bob Odenkirk to Star in Remake of “The Room”

Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”) will star in a remake of Tommy Wiseau’s “The Room,” shot mostly on greenscreen. Yes, there will be a remake of what many consider to be one of the worst films ever made. But through its notoriety for being nonsensical shlock, and Wiseau’s eccentric personality, it has gained a ravenous cult following among film fans and meme lords alike.

The cult love for “The Room” is so intense it even spawned 2017’s “The Disaster Artist.” Which starred James Franco, and told the story of how such an odd film even came to be. This year, “The Room” celebrates its 20th anniversary with another unique tribute. The details at this time are, fittingly, murky and sound like a fever dream.

It all started when podcaster Justin Decloux Posted on Twitter that they were excited for a greenscreen remake of “The Room.” Claiming that it would have Odenkirk taking over Wiseau’s character. Since then several news outlets and even Odenkirk himself have confirmed that the project is real. Decloux is not just messing with us.

I am very excited for the feature-length THE ROOM remake (Shot mostly on greenscreen) in which the Tommy Wiseau role is taken over by Bob Odenkirk – and it's not played as a joke. pic.twitter.com/qtenykdUKh

The project will benefit the charity amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research. Acting For a Cause is also involved, but it’s unclear if they are also going to benefit from the film, or if they are just backing it. Brando Crawford, the founder of Acting For a Cause, confirmed they directed the film. He also shared several behind-the-scenes images, many of which are in front of a greenscreen, seemingly confirming that element as well.

Odenkirk reconfirmed his role in the film while swearing he is playing the role seriously. Crawford, activist Cameron Kasky, and Bella Heathcote (“Neon Demon”) will star alongside Odenkirk. Kasky even said this will be a remake of the ENTIRE film. Not just selected scenes like some were speculating earlier on.

This is real. This is true. And let me tell you, I tried my best to SELL every line, as honestly as I could…and I had a BLAST https://t.co/v261E1DKnG

Not surprisingly, there is no firm release date yet for the film. Jarad Schwartz )Acting for a Cause) did share a photo with the caption “Something big coming this spring.” So that at least gives us a ballpark.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about “The Room” remake as they become available.
