Alex Gibney, the prolific and award-winning documentary filmmaker, has announced his latest project. It will focus on billionaire Elon Musk. The creators describe the film, titled “Musk,” as a “definitive and unvarnished examination” of the controversial CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter.

Gibney’s previous work has seen him tackle high-profile and controversial subjects such as Scientology, WikiLeaks, and Russian president Vladimir Putin. His investigative lens has focused on Elizabeth Holmes with “The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley,” Julian Assange with “We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks,” and Putin with “Citizen K.” He also took on corporate greed with “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room“. As well as a political sex scandal with “Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer.” Gibney won an Academy Award for “Taxi to the Dark Side.” A story about an Afghan taxi driver killed by American soldiers.

“I have been working on this film, off and on, for some time and am hugely excited about it,” Gibney said. “I am delighted by this extraordinary group who are working with me. Onward!”

Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions is producing the film in partnership with Closer Media, Anonymous Content and Double Agent. Double Agent is also financing the project. The list of producers and executive producers involved in the project is extensive, reflecting the significant interest in the subject.

The Focus is on Musk from Past to Present

The focus on Musk comes as the tech entrepreneur has become an increasingly significant figure in the public eye. Musk’s companies, Tesla and SpaceX, have made significant strides in the fields of electric vehicles and space exploration, respectively. However, his public persona has garnered both admirers and critics. Musk has made headlines for his controversial tweets, public spats with journalists and regulators. Some find his behavior erratic, including smoking marijuana during a podcast interview.

The documentary will likely delve into Musk’s upbringing in South Africa, his early successes with PayPal and Zip2, and his eventual founding of Tesla and SpaceX. It may also explore Musk’s ambitions for colonizing Mars, his battles with the automotive industry and government regulators, and his vision for a sustainable energy future.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring the story of Elon Musk to the screen in a way that is both informative and entertaining,” Gibney said. “Elon Musk is one of the most fascinating and divisive figures of our time.” The release date for “Musk” hasn’t yet been announced, but it is expected to generate serious buzz upon its release.
