Video game developers Velan Studios have teamed up with toymaker Mattel on the new mixed reality game, “Hot Wheels: Rift Rally.” It will combine the thrill of a AAA racing game with the fast-paced reality of RC racing.

“Hot Wheels: Rift Rally” will include the Chameleon RC car, four Rift Gates for track building, and a charging cable. The game itself offers two different ways to play, in Campaign mode where players set up the Rift Gates to create a mixed-reality race track. This allows you to explore different challenge maps with multiple challenges and races to complete. Or you can play in Stunt mode where players don’t set any Gates and simply stunt the RC with drifts, wheelies, and burnouts to earn points and rewards. You can also race up to four Chameleon RC cars in the same room.

The video game portion allows players the ability to customize their Chameleon RC car’s digital appearance. So if design is your thing, you can morph your virtual car into more than 140 vehicle variations. “Hot Wheels: Rift Rally” software is free to download and available on iPhone, iPad, and PlayStation 4, and 5. This offers players a lot of cross-platform compatibility making co-op play with friends significantly easier.

The game’s standard edition will retail for $129.99 with a special edition for $149.99. The special edition includes a collectors edition Chameleon RC car, a limited edition die-cast McLaren Hot Wheels® car, and a bonus unlockable car, the McLaren Senna. And we must say the black and gold on that collector’s edition Chameleon RC is pretty spiffy.

Pre-orders for “Hot Wheels: Rift Rally” are currently available here, for US customers only. The product is expected to ship on March 14, 2023. Canada residents will be able to order the game after March 14th, 2023.
