Mobile Gaming Is Massive: But Is It Actually Worth It?

Despite its rise to the top of the gaming ranks, gaming on a smartphone device will simply never suffice for many people, particularly gaming connoisseurs who don’t necessarily appreciate the smaller screen size and the limited graphics compared to console options. While this is an entirely understandable view to have, mobile gaming’s growth suggests that not everyone agrees with it.

In fact, alongside using smartphone devices to watch movies and television shows, people around the world are discovering the benefits of mobile gaming. For many, the casual package on offer that can be loaded up within seconds and enjoyed for a few minutes at a time is what makes mobile gaming so attractive. Console options, on the other hand, require more of an investment, both financially and mentally, therefore turning some people immediately off in the process.

Additionally, the fact that our smartphones now have the capability to house an array of games makes mobile gaming’s appeal understandable, too. People can jump between a console release and a popular casino game like 9 Masks of Fire, before firing up a puzzle product or venturing outdoors to catch Pokemon using Pokemon Go’s innovative augmented reality feature. Essentially, there is a mobile game out there for everyone, it’s just about tracking one down and dedicating some time to it.

    Lackluster releases are a thing

The same applies to PC and console releases too, but given its understandable limitations, when there’s a dud release on a smartphone device, it tends to rock the community. Despite mobile gaming’s relative infancy compared to console and PC gaming opportunities, people appear to expect it to deliver immediate results. What mustn’t be forgotten, though, is that it’s ultimately at the beginning of its journey. Our miniature handheld devices were initially designed as communication tools, so the fact that we’re able to dip in and out of console-quality releases as and when it suits us is remarkable when assessing how far smartphones have come. Previously, basic products, such as Snake, dominated the mobile gaming arena. People couldn’t even house apps on mobile phones either. These days, though, virtual reality and augmented reality titles are supplementing a gaming category that is clearly going from strength to strength. While it will probably never win over some, especially if they’ve got access to a PC or a console, it’s an understandably favoured option for others. Make no mistake about it, mobile gaming will keep on improving, too. Innovation is showing no signs of slowing down. There have been some notably bad releases on a mobile phone over the years, though, with the likes of Kim Kardashian Hollywood, Dungeon Keeper, and Angry Birds GO immediately springing to mind, but that happens on all gaming platforms, right? It isn’t perfect, but overall, mobile gaming’s package has never been so good.

In order to fully enjoy mobile gaming, not only do avid PC and console gamers need to lower their standards somewhat, but it’s also worth trying the leading releases first. These games typically serve up a better all-round gaming experience and come with a solid reputation. After all, portable gaming has surpassed technological barriers once deemed impossible and that certainly applies to this dramatically improved gaming experience. Some games can be elevated further with the purchase of a gaming phone, too. Leading releases worth sampling on a smartphone device right now include the likes of Call of Duty: Mobile, Clash of Clans, Minecraft: Pocket Edition, Garena Free Fire, Roblox, Among Us, PUBG Mobile, Raid: Shadow Legends, Mafia City, Elvenar, Genshin Impact, Slay the Spire, and Grid Autosport.
