It’s Wednesday, and that means we’ve had a few days of baseless rumors making the rounds from tinsel town. Normally, these are “sourced” stories from certain “outlets” making inflammatory claims about casting, news, and other choice subjects.
Variety, usually one of the leaders in the entertainment journalism industry, ran a lede DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has refuted as false. “A well-placed source says Gunn and Safran are exploring the possibility of incorporating filmmaker Matt Reeves’ iteration of Batman with actor Robert Pattinson into their wider universe,” the story claims.
Gunn, as he often does (bless him), took to Twitter to point out the reality of the situation:
Shortly thereafter, “The Batman” director Matt Reeves also responded to this story.
This comes after a week of back and forth about the future of the DCEU. Another timely report, this time from another industry pinnacle The Hollywood Reporter, sounded the death kneel for a top-tier Warner Bros. Pictures title, “Wonder Woman 3.” As often happens, the story took on a life of it’s own, with some outlets claiming director Patty Jenkins stormed out of meetings, quit, and other possible reactions to the news her gestating film had been nixed. (Jenkins has since addressed this in her own words, as has Gunn.)
But Pattinson’s The Batman leading the DCEU? That just seems silly.
We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
