Horror Icon Elvira Shares Big, ‘Uplifting’ Fashion Secret

Beloved horror host Elvira (Cassandra Peterson) has revealed one of her fashion secrets just in time for Halloween! The character of Elvira is known for her wit, her humor, and her over-the-top sense of macabre style. She sports skin-tight black gowns with deep plunging necklines. Outfits that show off her seemingly gravity-defying…huge tracks of land.

But this also creates a look that can often be hard for cosplayers to duplicate.

One Twitter user implied the Mistress of the Dark has been single-handedly keeping the double stick tape industry going for several decades. Turns out, that’s not the case, at least according to Elvira.

“There was NEVER any tape involved,” she said, after revealing the true foundation of the iconic décolletage was a sewn-in bra. While the prospect of bra shopping may not be a fun one, at least those going as the Mistress of the Dark this year can save some tape and sticky mess.

One of her original dresses actually sold at auction back in 2021. The description on the lot included mention of a sewn-in nylon bra.

Elvira has been going strong ever since her first appearance in 1981. Peterson released a memoir earlier this year, in which she revealed one of her most closely kept secrets. You can read more about that here.

She was most recently on Shudder’s “Joe Bob’s Haunted Halloween Hangout” on October 21st. It was a special episode of “The Last Drive-In” hosted by Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl. Elvira’s sense of humor fit right in among the show’s legion of “mutant” fans.
