Mattel Celebrates Tina Turner with New Barbie Doll

Toy company Mattel is celebrating music legend Tina Turner with a new Barbie doll! This doll is part of the Barbie Signature Music Series, which includes other tail-blazing artists like Gloria Estefan and David Bowie. The Queen of Rock ‘n Roll is the fifth artist to be inducted into the line but the sixth doll overall.

Just in time for the song’s 40th anniversary, this pint-sized Turner is modeled after Turner’s iconic “What’s Love Got to Do With It” music video. The song was her first number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart when it was released in 1984. It won three Grammys; Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It is also the title of Turner’s 1993 autobiography, and later biopic staring Angela Bassett as Tina.

Like the music video, Turner sports a black mini dress paired with a denim jacket, sheer black tights, and black heels. Some tear-drop earrings and a microphone complete this icon look. The doll is even articulated to really help you nail those post break-up music video reenactments.

But what is really impressive here is the hair, which mimics Turner’s signature volumized and textured look. This was a style she rocked the hell out of through most of the 1980s. “We used a lot of screen grabs to see the hair at all angles,” designer Bill Greening said. “Lots of teasing and hairspray was involved!”
