    Introduction

Editing is an important part of writing and shouldn’t be forgotten or underestimated. It’s a great way to make your writing better, easier, and more interesting to read.

Students are often in a dilemma when they write essays for school work. An expert – Angelina Grin, writing expert at Studybay says a common question students ask is, “What apps can I use to edit my paper and do revision online?”

Consequently, she clarified that editing apps are a great resource for students because they can get help with their writing and learn while at it. Furthermore, the best part about these apps is that you can use them anywhere, at home, in the library, or on the go. So, what are the popular online editing apps that students choose?

    Why Students Need Editing Apps

Before analyzing the editing apps students prefer nowadays, it’s important to ask why they need these apps in the first place. Nobody is perfect, so editing apps help students improve their writing and avoid common grammatical mistakes.

They can also help improve spelling and word choice to give an overall beautiful essay. These tools are especially useful for students who don’t speak their native language or if English isn’t their first language.

Here are some reasons why students need editing apps:

Improve clarity and readability: If your writing isn’t clear or easy to understand, readers may struggle to understand what you’re trying to say. Editing apps can help fix this problem by offering suggestions on making sentences more concise and easier to understand.

Avoid common grammatical errors: Most people make mistakes when they write because they don’t know the difference between “its” and “it’s” or when to use “who” or “whom.” Editing apps can help eliminate these mistakes by showing you the right way.

They’re convenient: Students can use these apps on their mobile devices, which means they can use them wherever they are — even when they’re on the go. The accessibility makes it easy for students to complete their work without carrying around a bulky laptop or desktop computer.

They’re easy to use: These apps have easy-to-use interfaces that make it easy for high school and college students to find their way around and use all of the features on each platform.

    Online editing tools for students

Online editing tools can help anyone write better. They are easy to use, available on the web, and free. Students can use these kinds of software for a variety of things:

    • revising a paper before submitting it
    • simplifying a large document or article into one that makes sense
    • checking of grammar rules

And so, we’ve compiled a list of students’ most popular editing apps.

    1. Grammarly
    2. Ginger
    3. Hemmingwayapp
    4. WhiteSmoke
    5. PaperRater
    6. Slick Write
    7. Polish my writing

    Grammarly

Grammarly is a writing editing app that can help with spelling, grammar, and more. Students can use Grammarly for free on any device or browser.

Grammarly can identify more than 250 errors in written text (including missing words, incorrect verb tense, and unnecessary repetition). It also checks for plagiarism by comparing your work against millions of web pages and other documents in its database. This makes Grammarly an essential tool for students learning to write at home or school—and anyone else who wants to improve their writing skills!

Grammarly has plenty of features that make it easy to use: The application’s website is password-protected, so you don’t have to worry about others seeing what you’re doing. There’s also an option called “Clipboard History,” which allows users to save anything copied onto their computer, so they don’t forget about important things later when working on different projects throughout the day.”

    Ginger

Ginger is another popular grammar checker that works online and offline on all devices. It is a free writing editing app that helps students with grammar, punctuation, and spelling. It’s available on Android and iOS.

Ginger has a free version with limited features—it will tell you when there are mistakes in your writing but won’t correct them automatically for you. But, if you upgrade to the paid version of Ginger, it will do more than just tell you about mistakes: it will also fix them for you automatically so that your writing is always polished.

    Hemingway App

Hemingway Editor is another free, user-friendly editing tool that helps students identify sentences with passive voice, long words, and complicated syntax. It provides suggestions for improving your writing in a clear, easy-to-understand way so you can make improvements quickly.

Hemingway Editor does not have a built-in dictionary; however, it provides links to several dictionaries where you can look up words if needed (like oxford dictionaries).

This app offers an option between two writing styles: Plain English or Writing Style. The Plain English style is good for beginners because it uses simple language and will not suggest changes beyond basic grammar corrections (e.g., comma splices). The Writing Style option uses more complex language but includes more advanced grammar suggestions and style changes (e.g., using “who” instead of “that”).

    WhiteSmoke

WhiteSmoke is a writing editing app that helps students with grammar, punctuation, and spelling. It also has an option to check your work for plagiarism.

The free version of WhiteSmoke allows you to check your emails or documents in MS Word, Google Docs, Scrivener, and more. You can also use it on your mobile device if you want to add some pop-ups of helpful information during class discussions.

The premium subscription includes grammar rules, explanations, and how-to videos so you can learn how to write better by example—and practice what you learn with interactive quizzes before submitting assignments.

    PaperRater

This free app is ideal for high school and college students who need help with grammar and writing skills. You can choose from various topics, including essays, articles, and papers. You’ll be asked to enter your text into the app, which will grade your text based on spelling, punctuation, and grammar. The app also identifies parts of speech, such as nouns and verbs, so it’s perfect for those who want to brush up on their writing skills without hiring an editor.

In addition to grammar and spelling checks, Paper Rater offers sentence structure suggestions and readability scores. A readability score tells you how easy or difficult your writing is to comprehend by a reader who doesn’t know much about your topic. It’s an index that compares your text’s grade level with your readership’s actual grade level (usually between fourth and eighth grade).

    Slick Write

This app is designed for students who want to write better essays, research papers, or any other type of academic paper. Slick Write has many features that allow users to create better content in less time with fewer errors. The app features tools like auto-correcting spelling mistakes, grammar checking, synonyms, word count tracking, and more. It also comes with an easy-to-use interface that makes it simple for anyone without previous editing software experience.

    Polish My Writing

Polish My Writing is great for students who need help organizing their ideas into coherent paragraphs. It helps you build sentences by asking questions about each sentence’s purpose and helping you find synonyms for complicated words. If a sentence doesn’t make sense or sounds awkward, it will tell you how to fix it.

    Takeaways

As we have seen, many editing app options are available to students who want to improve their writing. These apps can help students with their grammar and spelling, but they also offer many other features.

Editing is hard. And while it’s important to find the right tool for the job, it doesn’t have to be difficult. These apps are easy to use and can make your writing more concise, clear, and grammatically correct—even if you’re unsure where to start!
