Jerry Seinfeld to Write, Star in Netflix “Pop-Tarts” Movie

Comedy great Jerry Seinfeld had an epiphany during quarantine. An idea which apparently led to the birth of the upcoming movie, “Unfrosted: The Pop-Tarts Story.” Based on the breakfast staple, Seinfeld will be writing, directing, and starring in the project from Netflix.

“Stuck at home watching endless sad faces on TV I thought this would be a good time to make something based on pure silliness,” Seinfeld said. “So we took my Pop-Tart stand-up bit from my last Netflix special and exploded it into a giant, crazy comedy movie.”

We’re not sure how much of this will be based on fact but Pop-Tarts do have an interesting story. It wasn’t such a rivalry situation between Kellogg’s and Post as it was that Kellogg’s used Posts factory. They approached them and told them they wanted something for the toaster but didn’t know what. Bill Post is credited to figuring out the details and what was born was the delicious Pop-Tarts that we have today.

The logline for this film is just…odd. We’re both in awe and dumfounded as to how this will become an actual movie. But hey, we’re always up for a good time:

“Set in Michigan in 1963: Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar and menacing milkmen.“

Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Amy Schumer, Hugh Grant, James Marsden, Jack McBrayer, Tom Lennon, Adrian Martinez, Bobby Moynihan, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, and Sarah Cooper also star.

My suspicion is that they were all offered free Pop-Tarts for life. Who wouldn’t work for that!? We’ll let you know what we hear about a possible release date.
