5 Things to Ask for When Experiencing a Horrible Hotel Stay

Have you ever had a horrible hotel stay?

If so, you may be wondering how to deal with this type of problem.

We’ve all had one or two hotel stays that have been absolutely terrible.

But the bigger question is this.

When you’re in the middle of such a stay, how do you deal with it?

What can you do to help yourself when you’re literally in the middle of a hotel stay that truly feels like a night in the hotel of horror?

Well, this is a good question.

And sometimes, the answer is a little bit murky.

On one hand, you don’t want to put up with nonsense. But on the other, you don’t necessarily want to make enemies of the hotel staff, either.

That could only make things worse, right?

Well, in this post, you’re going to learn our five-step technique for how to handle horrible hotel stays.

And to be honest, it all really comes down to asking for these five things.

    Let’s talk about it.

Note: Did you know that you can get business travel insurance? As it turns out, this type of thing could give you extra protection, even on top of these steps we’re about to talk about!

    1. Ask For The Front Desk To Hear You Out

At the very first sign of trouble, you should always go to the front desk and let them know about the issue.

You want to start this process sooner rather than later.

Make sure that you let them know what the issue is, and that you do so in a calm, respectful, and understanding manner.

If the hotel staff really wants to help you, they’ll probably do it here.

This simple step will often eliminate the problem.

Just don’t wait until checkout to complain.

It’s always better to talk about any issues as soon as possible, to give the hotel a chance to help you and make your stay better.

    2. Ask For A Solution To The Problem

Obviously, when you talk to the hotel reps at the front desk, you’re not just looking for someone to vent to.

You need a solution to the problem.

So don’t be afraid to ask for one.

Try to be very specific about voicing what you would need to turn this stay around and make it awesome.

Hopefully, the hotel representatives and front desk clerks will hear you out and help you with the issue.

    3. Ask For Patience And Understanding

It’s always a good idea to remember to be patient when dealing with hotel personnel.

After all, they might be busy—and they may legitimately be trying to help you.

Plus, it’s always in your best interest to try to cultivate feelings of kindness and camaraderie with the people in charge of helping you during your stay.

With that being said, things can get frustrating.

So try to make sure that the hotel clerks know that you’re not trying to cause a problem.

You’re just trying to enlist their help to solve a minor issue with your stay.

Asking them for a bit of patience and understanding, while also showing it yourself, could go a long way toward helping you to solve the problem.

    4. Ask For A New Room

Sometimes, if the issue is just too severe, you may need to ask for a new room.

If your request is a fair one, the simple truth of the matter is that it should probably be granted.

If the hotel clerk won’t help you solve your problem in this manner, you may need to escalate to the fifth and final request.

    5. Ask To Speak With A Manager

Sometimes, you may have no other option than to ask to speak with the manager.

Once again, try not to get angry, and try not to get frustrated.

Try to keep the entire conversation calm and civil.

In fact, you can almost be apologetic to the hotel clerk with this request—and let them know that you understand that they can only do so much to help you.

Asking for a manager can sometimes seem like an angry move, but it doesn’t have to be.

You could, instead, contextualize it like this.

“Hey, I totally understand that there may not be anything you can do to help. Thank you so much for trying! Would it be possible for me to speak with a manager? I hate to cause you any more problems. And I know you’ve already tried your best. Perhaps a manager could help us with a solution that we haven’t been made aware of yet.”

Phrasing your question in such a kind and understanding way can sometimes yield very positive beneficial results.

    Conclusion

    There you have it.

Five things to ask for when experiencing a horrible hotel stay.

Hopefully, this post will give you a bit of guidance on your next terrible hotel visit, and help you to turn it around for the better.

Just remember—hotel staff members are people too.

So always try to be understanding and kind as you navigate these frustrating issues.
