Chris Pine Describes “D&D” Movie as ‘Eighties Heartfelt’

We still can’t get over the fact that eventually, next year even, we’ll get another live action “Dungeons & Dragons” movie. This time, it’s gotta be good…right? RIGHT? With a cast including Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Regé-Jean Page, there’s maybe a sliver of a chance?

At least we know Chris Pine looks good in armor, and is comfortable with a sword.

Chris Pine in “Outlaw King,” which is amazing, and so worth watching on Netflix

Speaking of Pine, he just recently chatted with Collider, and described the ol’ “D&D” live-action film as a mix of several other titles. And it’s got us even more hopeful.

” I will say is we had a hell of a fun time making it. There was a lot of laughs. The way that I’ve been describing it, it’s like ‘Game of Thrones’ mixed with a little ‘Princess Bride,’ just a smidge of ‘Holy Grail;’ it’s somewhere in that ballpark. It’s a lot of fun. It’s got a lot of thrills. It’s poppy, it’s eighties heartfelt, there’s a bit of ‘Goonies’ in there. My character, he’s the ultimate party planner. I think it’s going to be really good. I mean, who f***ing knows, but I think we got a good shot and John and John are killer guys. They know comedy and they know heart and we had a great cast and we had a good time making it. And that’s all you can ask for.”

The John and Jon Pine refers to are directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.

“Dungeons & Dragons” is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 3rd, 2023.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
