Map Tracks Which McDonald’s Ice Cream Machines are Broken or Working

Are you tired of driving all the way to your local McDonald’s with hopes of an ice cream cone just to find that the machine is broken? Well there’s no need to worry now! Check out this recently released map r that shows which ice cream machines are working and which ones are not at the Golden Arches.

I reverse engineered mcdonald's internal api and I'm currently placing an order worth $18,752 every minute at every mcdonald's in the US to figure out which locations have a broken ice cream machine https://t.co/2KsRwAdrMd

Thanks to Rashiq Zahid, 24, we will no longer have to wonder whether we will be able to get an ice cream treat from McDonald’s. He used just 2,000 lines of code to create McBroken, a website with a map that updates the status of the ice cream machines. This website tracks the machines for about 10,000 different McDonald’s restaurants throughout the United States.

In his tweet Zahid added, “to clarify how this works: mcdonald’s keeps track which locations have a broken machine, I’m merely querying for those – no order gets executed, no ice cream is actually wasted ?”

Zahid was inspired to create the website after he tried to get ice cream from his local McDonald’s in Berlin, Germany and discovered the machine was broken.  It only took him a few weekends to pull together.

“I just created this as a joke, because it’s been common knowledge that the machine breaks all the time. So initially I just wanted to just know for myself, verify if it’s just my impression or it’s really the case?”

    Zahid to CNN

The site has also attracted David Tovar, who is vice president of US communications and government relations for McDonald’s.

In a tweet, he stated, “Only a true @McDonalds fan would go to these lengths to help customers get our delicious ice cream! So, thanks! We know we have some opportunities to consistently satisfy even more customers with sweet treats and we will.”
