Dane Cook, comedian, actor, fan- has organized a live read that’ll no doubt have fans of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” excited. Announced just this morning, Cook has brought together Sean Penn, Jennifer Aniston, Julia Roberts, Morgan Freeman, Matthew McConaughey, Henry Golding, and ShiaLaBeouf to take part in a live event to benefit.

There will even be a special introduction from the film’s director by Amy Heckerling and writter by Cameron Crowe.

The “Feelin’ Alive” live read will benefit the emergency relief nonprofit CORE, the humanitarian organization co-founded by Penn and CEO Ann Lee. CORE is currently entrenched in the COVID-19 battle, providing testing and relief services across the United States.

In a statement released about the announcement, Heckerling said:

“I’m honored that so many talented, wonderful people are willing to get together to celebrate our movie, and to create their own special version of it. And I’m a huge fan of Sean. He has such a big heart and I fully support CORE and all of his causes.”

Crowe thanked Sean Penn in his comments:

“Sean brought magic to us on day one, and he is still bringing that magic to the world. We are so excited to be a part of this 2020 take on Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Thank you to this cast, and to Sean, for always honoring the best things in life, love and creativity. It is, as a great man once said, totally awesome.”

And Penn, that terribly fascinating individual said:

“On behalf of our dedicated team at CORE, I’m so appreciative of the support Dane has given and continues to give to our work. I’m always game for a giggle. So, to gather remotely for a night of laughs with so many talented folks while providing CORE with much-needed resources to continue our vital work, then consider us fully onboard to play!”

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
