Lupicia, the popular Japanese tea retailer, is at it again! The company has once again teamed up with Donguri Kyowakoku or “Acorn Republic” to create Ghibli-inspired tea masterpieces! In 2017, the companies joined forces to create three new teas inspired by popular Ghibli films. The tea tins featured both Kiki’s Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro. In fact, the Totoro one was even made using ingredients from the Sayama Hills. This is the real life forest where the totoros are said to live! Now, the companies are celebrating these popular films again!

Two tins from the companies’ last collaboration!

Starting April 13, the companies are producing two new limited-edition tea blends and containers. The newest tea blend celebrating My Neighbor Totoro is called “Rooibos Dandelion.” This tea is a blend of green rooibos and corn, inspired by the gift of corn Mei gives to her grandmother in the film. The blend contains no caffeine and costs 1,800 yen (US $16.12). The lid of the tin features a big, medium and small totoro surrounded by yellow dandelions. Phrases from the movie also appear. The container itself is blue with dandelions around it. Finally, the word “Totoro” along with the movie’s release year of 1988 complete the decoration.

The lid in all its glory!
    The totoros dominate this tin!

The newest tea blend for Kiki’s Delivery Service is called “The Rose Garden.” This tea is a blend of vanilla-and-fruit-scented black tea with rose petals inside. It will have the same price as a container of the Totoro blend. The lid of this tin shows off the two love cats Jiji and Lily. It shows off their first glance of each other in the film. Roses surround them, as well as text of a letter that Kiki wrote to her mother in the film. The container itself is pink with the film’s title, roses, and butterflies.

Lily and Jiji- a budding romance!
This tea looks bright and fanciful!

Both teas will be available exclusively on the Donguri Kyowakoku online shop and in the Donguri Kyowakoku Sora no Ue shop on April 13th. Lupicia will also release a limited quantity of the blends beginning on April 15th. So, if you are a fan of these Ghibli films you will want to act quickly! Supplies will surely go fast and you won’t want to miss out on the chance to sip some Ghibli magic! See you in the Sayama Hills!
