“Godzilla vs Kong” Gets an Earlier Release Date

Fans of the MonsterVerse who are eagerly awaiting the big showdown between its headlining stars, Godzilla and King Kong, will be happy to hear that the release date of Godzilla vs Kong has been moved earlier in 2020. Originally the film was set to debut on May 22, but now Warner Bros has slated the release for March 13, 2020. Universal’s moving the release of Fast and Furious 9 to the May 22 date may be the reason for the change. Now the two franchises won’t be competing for the box office that weekend.

Godzilla vs Kong will be the fourth movie in the MonsterVerse. The two title characters were reintroduced in the MonsterVerse in Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island (2017). The third movie in the franchise, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, debuts this year on May 31. Godzilla will have to triumph over Rodan, Mothra, and especially King Ghidorah in that movie before moving on to the showdown with Kong.

The two monsters went head-to-head before in the 1962 King Kong vs Godzilla with Kong emerging as the victor. We don’t know which monster will triumph in Godzilla vs Kong, but director Adam Wingard has promised a clear-cut winner.

As the Godzilla vs Kong movie synopsis states: The gigantic Kong meets the unstoppable Godzilla. The world watches to see which one becomes the king of all monsters.
