Only a smidge of monkey business here as we chat to “Primate” star Victoria Wyant about the perils of filming in a pool, having practical ape performers on set, and growing up mixed.

In “Primate,” a group of friends’ tropical vacation turns into a terrifying, primal tale of horror and survival. Wyant plays Kate, a longtime friend of Lucy Pinborough (Johnny Sequoyah) and her family. They have been raising chimpanzee Ben for years.
Ben is a perfect example of why practical performances matter, Miguel Torres Umba and stunt double Nadia Hansell (along with the team at Millenium FX) brought the terrifying titular chimp to life, and Wyant walked us through how helpful it was to have a performer to play off of.
The film also stars: Jessica Alexander, Oscar winner Troy Kotsur, Gia Hunter, Benjamin Cheng, Charlie Mann, and Tienne Simon.
