Legendary television and film star Richard Chamberlain has passed away, marking the end of an era in entertainment history. Richard Chamberlain, who captured hearts as the handsome young physician Dr. James Kildare in the 1960s, passed away after suffering complications from a stroke at his home in Hawaii.

Chamberlain passed on Saturday, March 29, 2025, in Waimanalo, Hawaii. His passing occurred just two days before what would have been his 91st birthday on March 31. According to publicist Harlan Boll, Chamberlain passed due to complications following a stroke.

The news of Chamberlain’s death was confirmed by multiple sources on Sunday, with his publicist stating the actor died at 11:15pm Hawaii time. Throughout his final years, Chamberlain had made Hawaii his home, where he became known for his environmental advocacy and artistic pursuits beyond acting, particularly painting.

During his six-decade career, Richard Chamberlain transformed from a television heartthrob to a versatile actor who notably dominated the miniseries format. His powerful performances in the original “Shōgun” and “The Thorn Birds” established him as one of Hollywood’s most respected leading men. Beyond his on-screen achievements, Chamberlain later became an inspiration to many when he openly shared his personal journey as a gay man in his 2003 memoir. Since he was so firmly embedded in the zeitgeist as a romantic leading man, it took him until the age of 68 to come out to the public.

    Chamberlain was 90.
