Entrepreneurs spend a lot of time thinking about growth. Recovery rarely gets the same attention.
The assumption is easy to understand. Business owners are taught to keep moving, keep pushing, and keep solving problems. Slowing down often feels like falling behind. For years, Joey Chandler believed that, too.
That changed in 2022.
Chandler experienced burnout after years of building businesses, serving clients, and chasing goals. Looking back, he does not see burnout as the most important part of the story. What mattered was what happened afterward.
He realized he had spent years creating plans for growth but had never created a plan for recovery.
The Missing Piece Most Entrepreneurs Never Build
“Most entrepreneurs have no recovery plan because they think the only acceptable gear is full speed ahead. I believed that too. Burnout taught me otherwise,” said Joey Chandler, Founder of Certain Growth Solutions.
Like many business owners, Chandler assumed recovery meant taking a break, catching his breath, and returning to work with renewed energy.
What he found was that rest alone was not enough.
Without a way to reconnect with the values that guided his decisions, the same frustrations, doubts, and habits eventually resurfaced. The cycle would simply restart.
“Without a way to return to your values after a hard stretch, you do not recover. You just restart the same cycle with less energy each time,” Chandler said.
That realization changed the way he thought about progress. Instead of viewing recovery as a temporary pause between work periods, he began to see it as an essential part of sustainable growth.
Recovery Is About Realignment
One pattern Chandler noticed in both his own experience and his coaching conversations was how quickly entrepreneurs assume something is wrong when momentum slows.
A missed goal becomes a crisis. A difficult month feels like failure. A setback is treated as proof that the plan is not working.
Chandler takes a different view.
He believes many of these situations are not signs of failure at all. They are signs of misalignment.
Rather than tearing everything down and starting over, he encourages entrepreneurs to identify what has drifted away from their values and make adjustments from there.
“When you build your life layer by layer, and a layer fails, you do not tear the whole thing down. You find the misalignment, correct it, and keep building,” Chandler said.
That idea eventually became part of the thinking behind the 3D Printed Life approach. Instead of trying to perfect one area of life before addressing another, entrepreneurs make steady progress across several important areas simultaneously. Small corrections happen along the way rather than after a complete breakdown.
A Stronger Foundation for Long-Term Growth
Chandler is careful to point out that recovery plans are not about avoiding challenges. Every entrepreneur will encounter setbacks, uncertainty, and periods of exhaustion.
The difference is having a reliable way to respond when those moments arrive.
He believes values provide that foundation.
When business owners know what matters most to them and have a practical way to reconnect with those principles, difficult periods become easier to navigate. Decisions become clearer. Priorities become easier to identify. Progress becomes easier to sustain.
For Chandler, the goal is not to create perfect days or perfect businesses.
The goal is to create a system that allows people to keep moving forward without sacrificing themselves.
