Actor and producer Patrick Muldoon, best known to many fans for his role in Starship Troopers, has passed away at the age of 57 following a heart attack.
For sci-fi fans, Muldoon’s portrayal of Zander Barcalow in Paul Verhoeven’s cult classic remains one of his most recognizable performances. Starship Troopers is one of the most watched movies for our generation (at least us nerds), and his performance continues to be part of what makes the film so memorable decades later.
Initially Muldoon built a notably large television career. He started his career while still in college with a two-episode arc on the sitcom Who’s the Boss?. Shortly after his 1991 graduation, he landed a three-episode recurring role on Saved By the Bell. However, his most memorable roles were of daytime television programs that our parents probably watched. He played Austin Reed on Days of Our Lives and Richard Hart on Melrose Place.
Beyond acting, Muldoon produced several film projects. The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, Marlowe, The Card Counter, The Dreadful, Riff Raff are all movies he produced. His most current film, Kockroach, is still filming with a release date of sometime in 2027.
He is survived by his partner, Miriam Rothbart; his parents, Deanna and Patrick Muldoon Sr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Shana and Ahmet Zappa; and their children, his niece Halo and nephew Arrow Zappa.
