Ryan Gosling (Project Hail Mary) has teased that he’s in talks with Marvel to play Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider. A role that we haven’t seen played since Nicholas Cage took up the mantle in 2007’s Ghost Rider. Cage was in the role again in 2012’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
Gosling who’s about to make his Star Wars debut in Star Wars: Starfighter, says he threw his hat in the ring for a role in the MCU back in 2022.
“We’ll keep hope alive… Some discussions have been had. It’s a complicated situation.”
Gosling on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
Initially after he announced his interest, Kevin Feige said he’d “love to find a place for him in the MCU.” This was back when Gosling was filming Barbie (2023).
“Hey man, if Ryan wants to be Ghost Rider … Gosling’s unbelievable
Ryan is amazing… I’d love to find a place for him in the MCU. He’s dressed up as Ken on Venice Beach and gets more press than giant movies coming out that weekend. It’s amazing.”
Feige to podcast host Josh Horowitz
I think that Ryan Gosling would bring a refreshing take on the MCU character. He could play Johnny Blaze as more of a stoic guy similar to how he was in Drive (2011). Or he could play it totally different and more goofy. His range is pretty wide when it comes to acting so no matter the direction he’d be great as Ghost Rider. And Feige is right, he knows how to promote a movie. Gosling could easily make this on par with how Ryan Reynolds embodies Deadpool.
