Everything You Need to Know About L-Plates, L plate Holder, and L plate Clips

You must have seen an L plate on many motor vehicles. Ever wondered why? L stands for learners, and is displayed over vehicles of driving instructors and new amateurs. As safety is primarily on the road, these plates serve as a signal for others to maintain a safe distance from the learner’s vehicle. The government has also assigned regulations to obey the same. In Australia, clip-on L plates are the most commonly used to display a learning sign.

    What Is an L-plate?

It is a square-shaped plate, printed with the letter L, which stands for learning. Usually, these are fixed on the front and back of the vehicle. It signifies that the person driving the vehicle is a learner. In Australia, the plate is yellow and the letter L is written in black. It’s an important symbol used to show others that the vehicle is driven by a learner.

Learners are allowed to drive only with a displayed L sign over their vehicle in most parts of Australia. But exceptions are there, like in Sydney, Moore Park, Centennial Park and Parramatta, a learner’s license is prohibited to operate a vehicle on traffic roads.

    Significance of L-Plate

Clip-on L plates, when displayed in a car, convey an alert message on the road that the person behind the wheel is a learner or amateur driver. These plates signal other drivers to maintain a safe distance and allow learners to drive in less stressful situations.

L plates are legally required and serve these purposes-

    • Safety- L plate fixed with L plate clips, helps to alert others on the road. This will help to reduce the possibility of accidents that might occur due to negligence.
    • Legal Compliance – Countries like Australia have legal mandates for L plates on the vehicles of learners. Otherwise, strict legal action will be taken by the authority.
    • Development of Driving Skills- This will add a sense of responsibility and give ease to both learners and driving instructors. Displaying a clip on L plates will help learners to focus more on driving rather than panicking, as others will be aware of the learner behind the steering wheel.

     Ways to Mount L-Plates

We’ve all seen it — an L plate flapping in the wind, stuck badly, and flying off. It’s not only annoying but also affects the plate’s visibility to others. Avoid such situations with these easy clip-on L plates, with their L plate holder and L plate clips.

Mentioned below are the components of L-plates and the ways to mount them properly. It is advised to place it in a visible area, like near the number on the front and back. Indoor placement is not preferable at all.

    • Clip-on L Plates

These are easy to use, just put this clip on the number plate at both the front and back of the vehicle. Attach the L plate to it. It is advised to use the L symbol at least 2 visible places on your vehicle. Usually, this learning symbol is placed at the front and the back.

    • L Plate Holder

A durable plate holder that is designed to hold the plate securely. These plates are often reusable. These plate holders are suitable for all types of plates.

    • L Plate Clips

These come with great accessibility. These clips are easy to attach to plates and easy to fix on a vehicle (generally on the number plate in Australia). Align the clip with the number plate. Now gently push the triangular tongue behind the plate and slide the plate into it.

    Conclusion

L plates are an important part of traffic regulation. These are used by the amateur driver and the driving school’s vehicles. In Australia, plates are mandatory to mount, preferably at the front and back. If a vehicle is found with a learner driver without the displayed L sign, then strict action will be taken by the authority.

These clip-on L-plates are easy to mount on the number plate of the vehicle using the L-plate holder and L plate clips.

If you are someone who is going to start learning to drive, a driving instructor or a newly learned driver, then these are a must for you. Many companies, like Roof Sign, offer car accessories, including L-plates and P-plates. Reach out and buy it now for a safer experience.
