Does Health Insurance Cover Dental and Vision Care?

Health insurance coverage may or may not include dental or vision care. Several health plans include dental and vision care as part of OPD benefits but do not provide hospitalisation benefits. They cover hospitalisation expenses only if a covered event, such as an accident or a sudden injury, causes the conditions.

What Does Medical Dental and Vision Insurance Mean?

Dental and vision health coverage includes medical expenses for dental and eye procedures. The insurance is meant to lessen the financial burden associated with these medical services for individuals and their family members.

Process of Dental and Vision Health Insurance

Health plans that include dental and vision coverage mostly provide coverage as part of OPD coverage or for additional premium payments. Such conditions usually have a waiting period that may range from six months to a few years. Moreover, the coverage has a claim limit specified in the insurance documents; if the claim amount exceeds this limit, you must bear the cost of exceeding medical expenses.

    Dental Medical Insurance Coverage

Here are the dental care benefits covered under dental insurance that are not available in standard health insurance plans.

    • Oral x-rays
    • Tooth conservation
    • Extraction
    • Root canal treatment
    • Periodontal procedure mentioned in policy documents
    • Dental consultations include emergency palliative treatment of dental pain, minor procedures, and health insurance dental implants in accidental cases.

    Vision Medical Insurance Coverage

Common benefits of vision care that are not included in standard health insurance plans.

    • Routine eye check-ups once every policy year.
    • Contact lenses or corrective spectacles as prescribed by an ophthalmologist.

These vision care benefits are provided in OPD benefits. However, certain health insurance plans cover different daycare procedures. These include:

    • Certain medical insurance plans, such as critical illness plans, cover Lasik surgeries for people with acute refractive errors.
    • Cataract surgeries are covered under most comprehensive plans as daycare procedures for up to a specified limit.
