    Surprising Dog Facts

Dogs are more than just pets – they’re our companions. Goofy, lovable, and full of surprises. That cute, confused head tilt, sprinting around for no particular reason, puppy eyes, uncontrolled tail wagging… It’s impossible not to love them. They’re very open, which gives us this fake sense that we know everything about them. Well, here are some facts that are going to make you fall in love with them even more!

    Dogs Can “Catch” Your Mood

Ever had a rough day, only to have your dog curl up next to you as if they know exactly what you’re feeling? That’s because dogs are incredibly intuitive and can pick up on human emotions. They can sense when you’re sad, stressed, or happy, and they often adjust their behaviour accordingly. So, if you’re feeling down, just know your furry friend is there for cuddles and comfort. To keep dogs healthy year-round, owners can use specialized flea products for dogs that prevent infestations and ensure better coat and skin health.

The Basenji is the Only Barkless Dog

While most dogs love to bark, the Basenji is unique – it doesn’t bark at all! Instead, this African breed makes a yodel-like sound, often called a “barroo.” So, if you’re looking for a quiet pup but still want a talkative companion, the Basenji might be your perfect match.

    Dogs Dream Just Like Humans

Ever seen your pup twitching or softly barking in their sleep? That’s because dogs experience REM sleep, just like we do, which means they dream! Scientists believe that dogs dream about their daily experiences – so if your pup spends the day chasing squirrels, they’re probably dreaming about the ultimate squirrel chase at night.

    Some Dogs Have Webbed Feet

Certain breeds, like Labrador Retrievers, Newfoundlands, and Portuguese Water Dogs, have webbed feet! This special adaptation helps them swim more efficiently, making them excellent water dogs. So, if your pup loves splashing around in the water, they might just have some hidden aquatic skills!

There’s a Reason Dogs Love Dog Cookies So Much

Dogs have around 1,700 taste buds (compared to a human’s 9,000), but they still have a strong preference for certain flavours – especially meaty and savory treats. That’s why dog cookies are such a hit! Whether it’s peanut butter-flavoured, bacon-flavoured, or a classic biscuit, your pup probably can’t get enough of their Favorite snacks.

The Oldest Dog on Record Lived to Be 31

The longest-living dog ever recorded was an Australian Cattle Dog named Bluey, who lived to be 31 years old! That’s nearly double the average lifespan of most dogs. While not all pups can live that long, proper nutrition, regular exercise, and plenty of love can help your furry friend stay happy and healthy for many years. An impressive feat, considering there was no puppy vaccination schedule or a whole lot of dog medicine available back then.

    Paw Licking

Why is your dog licking paws? Well, they do that for a variety of reasons, and while occasional licking is normal, excessive kind can signal an underlying issue. Sometimes, it’s just a way for them to clean themselves, especially after walking on dirt or grass. But if they do that all the time, this could be due to allergies, dry skin, irritation from salt or chemicals, or even boredom and anxiety. If your pup is constantly licking their paws, it’s worth checking for redness, swelling, or any signs of discomfort – and if it persists, a vet visit might be a good idea!

    Best Friends

Dogs are full of surprises, from their unique nose prints to their incredible ability to sense human emotions. They make us and our lives better. So, give your pup an extra belly rubs today, grab a handful of their favourite treats, and appreciate just how amazing they truly are!
