Robert Downey Jr. Introduces Stark Flight Lab Ride [SXSW 25]

South by Southwest (SXSW) is happening in Austin right now, and boy did the Disney Parks folks bring down the house with their news drop. From a surprise appearance by the one and only Robert Downey Jr., brand new rides, and updates to existing attractions, we’re excited for what’s coming to the parks.

    Stark Flight Lab Ride

RDJr. shared some insight into the upcoming Stark Flight Lab, coming to Avengers Campus at California Adventure. In Tony Stark’s workshop, guests will board  “gyro-kinetic-pods,” and takes inspiration from Tony’s robot helpers, Dum-E and Dum-U.

“Transferring from a track to a robot arm and then back again, nothing like this has ever been done before in a theme park, and we’re so excited about it,” Walt Disney imagineering chief creative officer Bruce Vaughn said. “Usually we hide all the tech behind the scenes so you can focus on the story. Here, the tech is the story, so we’re putting it front and center.”

“I want to stay with you all for the long haul,” RDJr. told Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige and Vaughn. “This isn’t a one-time deal. You need more me.”

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
