“TRON: Ares” to be ‘Grittier,’ ‘More Industrial’

2025 will mark 15 years since Disney released “TRON: Legacy.” We’re remembering how excited we were for the film- the original being one of our favorites from childhood- and wondering how The Grid would be updated with technology of the time. Needless to say, “TRON: Legacy” freaking RULES, thanks in no small part to the incredible score by Daft Punk. And, subsequently, the artists who contributed pieces to the no less incredible “Tron: Legacy Reconfigured” remix soundtrack album.

So, with industrial mainstay and pioneers Nine Inch Nails in the hot seat for “TRON: Ares,” we’re very curious to see how everything goes. Especially after reading this quote from director Joachim Rønning (“Pirates of the Caribbean“).

“With Nine Inch Nails making the music, this installment will be a little grittier, a little bit more industrial,” Rønning told Empire Magazine. “It’s been important for me to contrast The Grid and the real world. In that sense, Nine Inch Nails lends itself perfectly into this new ‘TRON‘ world that we are creating.”

The film stars Jeff Bridges, Jared Leto, Gillian Anderson, Cameron Monaghan, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Sarah Desjardins, and Jodie Turner-Smith.

“TRON: Ares” is set to hit theaters October 10th, 2025. We’ll keep you updated on this and other news.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
