The development of the “Poltergeist” television series at Amazon MGM Studios has attached some new names to the project. Kalinda Vazquez and Robbie Thompson have joined the team, assuming the roles of writers, showrunners, and executive producers.
While specific plot details remain under wraps, the series draws inspiration from Tobe Hooper‘s legendary 1982 movie. “Poltergeist” revolved around the Freeling family who, upon moving into a new residence, find themselves plagued by an army of spectral beings. When their young daughter is abducted by these ghosts, the Freelings collaborate with a parapsychologist and a metaphysical medium to rescue their child and evade the spectral menace. (Also, the actual house is currently on the market!)
Vazquez boasts an impressive television portfolio, having contributed to “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Fear the Walking Dead,” “Prison Break,” and “Nikita.” She’s also penned stories for Marvel Comics. Most notably, she collaborated with Carlos Gomez to co-write “America Chavez: Made in the USA.”
Thompson earned fame as a writer, eventually also becoming a co-executive producer for several seasons of The CW’s well-loved series “Supernatural.” He also created and directed prequel series “The Winchesters.” Beyond his successful ventures in television, Thompson earned significant recognition as a highly respected comic book author, writing for legendary characters such as Silk, Venom, Doctor Strange, and Spider-Man.
