If you are a fan of Andy Weir‘s amazing book “The Martian,” chances are you’ve also read his two followup novels- “Artemis,” and “Project Hail Mary.” The latter of those is actually getting a feature film adaptation from Christopher Miller and Phil Lord (“The LEGO Movie,” “Spider-Verse“), which will star Ryan Gosling!
Lord and Miller are directing from a script by Drew Goddard, who also wrote the script for Ridley Scott‘s “The Martian” adaptation. And, as of today, cameras are rolling!!

Without getting into any kind of spoiler territory, Gosling will play Ryland Grace, a middleschool teacher-turned-astronaught who is on a mission to save Earth. He is pretty much humanity’s last ditch hope- a Hail Mary play, if you will. He is alone on this particular space trip, or IS he?
Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall“) has also been cast, but there is very little information other than that.
We know the film currently has a March 20th, 2026 release date from Amazon MGM Studios. (Speaking of Amazon, if you need copies of Weir’s works, here you go! And/or the 4K of “The Martian,” extended edition here.)
We’ll let you know what else we hear about this and other news.
