We are very sorry to share the news that Richard Lewis has passed away. In April of 2023, Lewis revealed he had been living with Parkinson’s disease.
Lewis’s publicist Jeff Abraham confirmed the news of his passing.
“His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time,” Abraham said.
Lewis cut his teeth in New York in the 1970s, making a name for himself in comedy clubs and live shows. He made numerous appearances on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,” maybe not becoming a household name, but getting pretty close.
He starred in films from Mel Brooks (“Robin Hood Men in Tights“); alongside Nicolas Cage in “Leaving Las Vegas;” and even played a version of himself in Larry David‘s long-running series “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” He was loved and respected by many in the comedy world, and we’re sad to see him gone.
He was 76, and reportedly died of a heart attack.
