Henry Cavill’s “Warhammer” Takes Another Big Step Forward

Everyone knows Henry Cavill is a big ol fanboy. He loves many things. Comics, tabletop and computer gaming, “The Witcher” books- he really is living the dream. But perhaps his biggest fandom is Games Workshop enduring world of Warhammer 40,000.

Just…LOOKIT THAT SMILE! Henry Cavill visits the WH40K workshop

Official news of Cavill getting to star in and produce a Warhammer 40k project broke back in 2022. Oh sure, there had been rumors for years, but, this was ACTUAL news. Just like this official update from Games Workshop on December 18th:

Back in December last year we announced Games Workshop and Amazon Studios had signed an agreement in principle to work together to bring the Warhammer 40,000 universe to screens, big and small. Well, today we have an update, and it’s one we’ve all been longing to hear. We’ve now signed the full agreement and the next stage can begin!

Now comes the fun part: working out all the creative details with our partners and getting the first script written and into production. What Warhammer 40,000 stories should we tell first? Should we kick off with a movie or a TV show? Both?!

All we can tell you right now is that an elite band of screenwriters, each with their own particular passion for Warhammer, is being assembled to help bring the setting and characters you love to the screen. This illustrious group will be championed by Henry Cavill, who stands ready to take his place as executive producer – bringing his pen, sword and/or spear to the project.

TV and Film production is a mammoth undertaking. It’s not unusual for projects to take two to three years from this point before something arrives on screen. Still, things are now properly rolling, and you can bet we’ll bring you all the latest updates and cool snippets as soon as we’re able.

So, it’s not news of production starting, but the first big step towards that. We’re excited, and hope things get moving quickly. But…maybe not so quickly that Henry doesn’t have time to do Chad Stahelski‘s “Highlander” reboot.

We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
